Peninsula Regional Medical Center - Part of Peninusula Regional Health System
Patient Safety

In the early 1990's, long before most health care systems were spending money on it and years before the F.D.A. mandated it, Peninsula Regional Medical Center, in partnership with the McKesson Corporation, began blending digital technology and patient safety. Our goal was to close the loop around patient and medication safety, eliminate the margins for error, create a digital hospital and make Peninsula Regional one of the safest health care centers in America. As one example of our success, we have a robot that has been selecting bar coded medications for patients since 1999. Recently, leaders of some of the best hospitals in America have visited Peninsula Regional to gain insight on improving their own facilities. Peninsula Regional is proud to have been recognized as an American Hospital Association “Most Wired” winner for our marriage of technology and patient safety, and placed among the nation’s Top 25 Rural Hospitals in communities of our size.
